Finish Along 2014 Q1 Lucky Stars Finish

At last I finished the Lucky Stars for my Mum and it was delivered on Mothers Day.  I started in early 2013 with Don't Call Me Betsy's BOM Club 2013.  I have also added a couple of HST blocks and a block pattern by Lynne of Lily's Quilts featured in Love Quilting and Patchwork.  The fabric was Kate Spain and mostly the Cuzco collection.  The Lucky Stars blocks are all paper pieced and I love the technique but it does waste a lot of fabric which I hate doing.

 The first photo shows  Lynne of Lily's Quilts block which looks great with the peacock in the middle.

 

 

So I managed a grand total of 2 out of 6 - not bad for my first time.  Must try harder, must try harder, must try harder x 100 lines.  My original list is here.

uh oh falling behind already

My 'hope to' finishes are looking more like wishful thinking in the 2014 Finish Along.

The On A Whim pattern duvet cover is now in rows at least

 

 

The Lucky Stars quilt has had lots of straight stitching and I will probably FMQ sections as well.  It was supposed to be a birthday present for my Mum in December but now it should make Mothers Day which will also make the end of Q1.  Here's hoping...

 



 

The two Marcelle Medallions are doing ok.  The Frankenstein one has had a few borders added and the 'au natural' one has had its last border on and is waiting to be layered. I thought I had already finished the borders but no but yes I have now.

And lastly the Giant Vintage Star is pinned and ready for quilting.  This may sound a bit stupid but I did not realise just how blinking big it would be!

 

 

So overall not too bad - if it was mid-February and not mid-March!

After a bit of garden tidying tomorrow I shall be sewing for the rest of the day and I can't wait!

Going along slowly (very)

Drum roll.......I have finished one of my Finish Along 2014 items.

The Heaven and Hex cushion is completed.  It is 25" square - well almost square - the corners are a little strangely shaped - think I need to move the cushion insert stuffing around a bit.  The back is envelope style with Velcro using an IKEA home dec weight fabric.  The pattern is from Fat Quarterly

The Giant Vintage Star Quilt is coming along.  It is cut and triangles sewn together in each square ready for joining.

The Lucky Stars quilt has seen a bit more quilting but that's about it.

I have not been totally idle as my time has been taken by making these

blocks for Alison at Little Island Quilting.  She is collecting finished 12 1/2" blocks to make into quilts for Mexican ex-street children.  Please take a look at the details here

I am listening to Tom Robinson on 6Music as I type - it is sublime this evening with a focus on The Smiths as well as all the other great music he is playing. 

A fabric equivalent of sublime music is this zebra print

I hope anyone affected by the stormy weather we have here on the south coast of England and elsewhere are managing ok.

Finish Along 2014 Q1

I thought I would join the Finish Along 2014 for Q1 at The Littlest Thistle blog.  It is being brilliantly hosted and coordinated by Katy.  It should give me the spur along I need to get some items finished.
So without further ado here's what I need to finish and pronto:
Number 1 - On A Whim pattern duvet cover - this has been around for months.

Number 2 -  Lucky Stars BOM from Elizabeth Dackson at Don't Call Me Betsy needs quilting

 

 

Number 3- Heaven and Hex pattern from Fat Quarterly - started with good intentions of making the full size quilt but have realistically reduced this to a large cushion size





 

 

 

 

Number 4 and 5 --  1  Marcelle Medallion and 1 Frankenstein Marcelle Medallion with Vanessa Christenson Kaleidoscope block as the centre.  The first needs layering and quilting and the second needs lots more borders.

I think that is more than enough to be getting on with!

New start

A new year and a new start with blogging.  My original aim for my blog was to record my makes for myself and when I stopped posting - well you can guess - I stopped recording what I had made.  The new title of  the blog reflects the fact that I mostly only get to sew at weekends.  Roll on retirement....
